Unlocking Your Self-Care Love Language: 5 Paths to Wellness

Self care is so important! It is important to show love to yourself, how can you love others if you don’t love yourself first?

My love languages has changed over the years, which I think is okay as we develop as people. It is also okay for there to be more than one, or a combo of all 5. Give yourself whatever you need at the time.


1. Words of Affirmation

  • Self-Care Ideas:
    • Write positive affirmations or motivational notes to yourself.
    • Start a gratitude journal and reflect on your accomplishments.
    • Record a voice memo of encouraging words.
    • Follow inspiring travel bloggers to keep your wanderlust alive.
    • Journal your travel experiences, noting the moments you’re most proud of.
    • Write postcards to yourself from every destination you visit.

2. Acts of Service

  • Self-Care Ideas:
    • Organise your living space to create a calm environment.
    • Meal prep healthy and nourishing foods for the week.
    • Create a to do list and tick something off.
    • Plan a solo travel trip.
    • Book a guided tour to save yourself the stress of planning.
    • Book accommodations that offer extra perks like breakfast or spa services.

3. Receiving Gifts

  • Self-Care Ideas:
    • Treat yourself to something meaningful, like a book or a cozy blanket.
    • Create a “self-care box” with items that bring you joy (candles, skincare, etc.).
    • Invest in quality travel gear, like a durable suitcase or noise-canceling headphones.
    • Purchase a souvenir or small token from each destination to commemorate your trip.
    • Treat yourself with an upgraded flight or a luxury experience on your trip.

4. Quality Time

  • Self-Care Ideas:
    • Dedicate an hour each day to doing something you love, like reading or crafting.
    • Practice mindfulness or meditate.
    • Spend a solo afternoon exploring your city or a nearby nature spot.
    • Take a solo trip to immerse yourself in a new culture or environment.
    • Schedule a day of your vacation to simply relax and be present (e.g., lounging on a beach or strolling through a scenic town).

5. Physical Touch

  • Self-Care Ideas:
    • Book a massage or indulge in a relaxing spa day.
    • Practice yoga or stretching to connect with your body.
    • Use calming skincare routines or take warm baths to soothe yourself.
    • Seek out wellness-focused travel experiences, like hot springs or thermal baths.
    • Treat yourself to a travel massage or reflexology session at your destination.
