My Time in Kuwait: An Unforgettable Middle Eastern Experience

February 8, 2025

I met my friend Khaled in Greece, and before that, I had never even heard of Kuwait, let alone considered visiting. But once I had a local friend there, I was excited to check it out and experience something completely different.

The Visa Process: A Long Night

✈️ Landing at 1 AM – The visa process was slow and entirely manual. I ended up waiting for about three hours and finally left the airport at 4 AM.

Highlights of Kuwait

1. Meeting Incredible People

👫 Since I was staying with Khaled, I got introduced to so many amazing people—both Kuwaitis and expats. Hearing about their backgrounds and experiences was one of the most fascinating parts of the trip.

2. Al Shaheed Park

🌳 This park is absolutely gorgeous and has amazing views of the city. It’s also incredibly clean, and if you want a break, there’s even a Starbucks inside to grab a coffee.

3. Kuwait Towers

🏙️ We went up the Kuwait Towers, and the view from the top was very cool. Up close, the towers were even more stunning—on the spherical structures reminded me of mermaid scales.

4. Drive to the Farm

🌻 We took a drive near the Iraq border to visit a farm. The landscape was surprisingly pretty, with flowers and animals all around.

5. Local Market Food

🍽️ The food in Kuwait was amazing, and experiencing Middle Eastern cuisine at a local market was a highlight. Authentic and full of flavour!

Final Thoughts: Is Kuwait Worth Visiting?

Kuwait isn’t really set up for tourists—you won’t find backpacker hostels or a huge travel scene. But that’s exactly why it’s worth visiting. Unlike places like Dubai, which are built for tourism, Kuwait gives you a raw and real experience of a country just doing its thing.

⏳ How long do you need? You can see everything in 2-3 days, no problem.

Would I recommend visiting? Absolutely!

Interesting Facts About Kuwait

💰 Strongest currency in the world (Kuwaiti Dinar)

🍷 Alcohol is illegal – But if you’re a tourist, you may be able to get it from an embassy.

🏥 Free healthcare & education for citizens.

🌍 Most generous foreign aid donor per capita.

💸 No taxes!

📆 The workweek is Sunday–Thursday, with the weekend being Friday and Saturday. (Friday is the big religious holiday in Muslim culture, equivalent to our Sunday- God’s day)

Kuwait was a unique and eye-opening place, and I’m so glad I got to experience it! 🇰🇼✨
