Flights can be pretty bad for your skin. The high altitude, the recirculated dry air and increased UV exposure adds up quickly. Planes are also super dirty, I have seen videos of people washing their face on a plane with the dirty tap water.
I am super cautious when it comes to my face, and this is my Long Haul Flight Skincare Routine.
My goal is to make sure my face is clean and keep it hydrated, everyone has different needs for our skin. For the time I am on a plane, I take out all my treatments from my routine as they may become drying in that recirculated air. I like to keep it simple and effective.
Pre flight
- Cleanse – Double cleanse, ensure your face is totally clean
- Moisturise – The plane can be super drying, load up on a rich moisturiser
- Sunscreen – So important! The increased UV will get to your sun, even with your shade closed
During flight
If the flight is not a long flight, I will not do anything to my face, but if it is a longer flight and my skin needs it I do the below.
- Ensure your hands are clean – Hand Sanitiser
- Moisturise – The plane can be super drying, load up on a rich moisturiser
- Sunscreen – We all know to reapply sunscreen, you may forget when you are up in the air, but remember, the UV exposure is increased on a plane.
- Use lip balm throughout the flight – Maybe every two hours
Post flight
This obviously depends what I have on, but a nice hot shower after a long travel day/days feels amazing! This is where I will do my normal skin care routine and give my skin everything it needs. Good cleansing is a must!
