I spent one month eating my way through Greece, and let me tell you—this country was an absolute dream for food lovers. Greek cuisine quickly became one of my favourite cuisines from my entire six-month trip. From fresh seafood to sizzling souvlaki, here are my top picks that you simply can’t miss!
Top 2 Must-Visit Restaurants
1. Karamanlidika, Athens
🍽️ Why it’s amazing: This place was to die for! I would fly to Athens again just to eat here! We asked the waiter what we should order, and wow—every bite was to die for!
✔️ What we ate:
- Meatballs
- Greek salad
- Kavourmas (slow-cooked meat in its own fat, insanely good!)
If you’re in Athens, this is a must-visit.
2. Phevos, Corfu
🍽️ Why it’s amazing: Again, we trusted the waiter’s recommendations, and they did not disappoint. Every dish was incredible!
✔️ What we ate:
- Fresh seafood
- Traditional Greek appetisers
- A perfectly cooked, juicy main dish (seriously, order what they tell you!)
If you’re in Corfu, do yourself a favour and eat here.
Best Gyros in Greece
I ate gyros almost every single day—and honestly, you can’t go wrong. But there are a few key things that separate good gyros from amazing gyros:
✔️ The sauce (Tzatziki or tyrokafteri) needs to be mixed through and not just dumped on top.
✔️ Chips inside—I’m sorry, but no chips is not the vibe.
✔️ The meat has to be seared properly—I’m not here for floppy meat.
Best Gyros Spots
- Souvlaki Street, Mykonos – The most expensive, but very tasty.
- To Souvlaki tou Maki, Naxos – Local vibes and really good meat.
- Kozi Restaurant, Naxos – Right on the beach, perfect setting.
- Peri Anemon, Ios – One of my absolute favourites—every element was spot on!
- Αλεξανδρινό Κεμπάπ – Μοναστηράκι, Athens – My favourite in Athens. It’s not one of the famous ones, but it just hit differently. Every other gyro in Athens was missing something.
- Kosta Souvlaki, Athens – This one is meant to be the best in Athens! The photos look insane. Unfortunately, it was closed when I was there—I almost cried. But if you’re in Athens, I’d recommend this in a heartbeat.
- Hoo Cut, Athens – Apparently Gordon Ramsay’s favourite—it was really good, but no chips in the gyro. 😭
- Tylixto, Athens – Solid, but not life-changing.
- O Gyros, Corfu – Very tasty, but not enough sauce for my liking. That said, it’s probably the best in Corfu Old Town.
Athens Rooftop Bars
I only did three rooftop bars, and they all had different vibes:
✔️ A for Athens – Best view in Athens! I didn’t eat here, just had drinks. The menu looked weird and pricey, though.
✔️ 360 Cocktail Bar – The drink menu was fine but average, and the view was okay but not amazing.
✔️ Ciel Athens – The best food and cocktail menu by far! But the view wasn’t the best compared to the others.
Best Dessert Spot
🍦 Solo Gelato, Corfu – This spot had one of those drip chocolate machines that coat your cone before they add the gelato. So good! But not enough chocolate, in my opinion. 😆
Final Thoughts
If you’re heading to Greece, make sure you eat as much as possible! Every meal here was incredible, but these were the spots that stood out the most.
Happy eating! 🇬🇷 🍽
